Strengthening SC’s Water Protections& Industrial Oversight

Audrey W.•4 months ago SC has some of the weakest water‑protection laws in the nation and lacks: • environmental‑review for chemical‑using industries • cumulative‑impact analysis • groundwater & surface‑water protections • industrial water‑use disclosure • real‑time spill alerts • buffer zones near schools & waterways • a statewide water‑outage dashboard • limits on high‑consumption industrial withdrawals • basin‑wide and intrastate river‑monitoring requirements

Family Court Streamlining / Judicial Capacity

Audrey W.•4 months ago SC has some of the longest Family Court wait times in the country because judges handle every issue, even routine matters that other states assign to clerks or magistrates. Families wait months for temporary hearings and years for final ones. SC needs more judges based on population, magistrates or clerks to manage routine filings and enforcement, and modernized administrative processes to reduce delays and keep cases moving.

Oversight, & Community‑Safety Gaps

Audrey W.•4 months ago SC lacks basic safeguards for heavy‑industrial siting and high‑consumption projects: • no environmental review before approval • no siting standards for hazardous or chemical‑using facilities • no zoning protections for homes or schools • no disclosure of industrial water or power demand • no wastewater‑capacity review • no cumulative‑impact analysis • no public hearings for high‑risk projects • no requirement to assess emergency access or evacuation routes

Improving Bicycle Safety & Mobility

Audrey W.•4 months ago SC ranks near the bottom for bike safety, with limited protected routes and few structured places for kids to learn. Please expand youth bike‑learning programs, school bike‑safety lessons, Safe Routes to School, and state‑park clinics. SC should also adopt 3‑foot passing, Complete Streets, safe‑speed authority, basic bike‑lane design standards, and stronger driver‑awareness and teen driver‑ed requirements to improve safety statewide

Heavy‑Industrial Siting, High‑Consumption Oversight, and Community‑Safety Gaps in SC

Audrey W.•4 months ago SC lacks basic safeguards for heavy‑industrial siting and high‑consumption projects: • no environmental review before approval • no siting standards for hazardous or chemical‑using facilities • no zoning protections for homes or schools • no disclosure of industrial water or power demand • no wastewater‑capacity review • no cumulative‑impact analysis • no public hearings for high‑risk projects

Industrial Siting, Chemical Safety, & Basin‑Level Oversight

Audrey W.•4 months ago SC has no consistent statewide standards for siting or regulating industrial facilities that use hazardous chemicals. When counties ignore BZA rulings, schools & neighborhoods face preventable risk. With no federal lifecycle rules for solar manufacturing, communities rely on inconsistent local decisions. SC needs statewide environmental evaluations, basin‑level reviews for already stressed river systems, clear chemical/wastewater standards, transparent MGD reporting for high‑demand users, stormwater oversight, & a public water‑mgmt. outage dashboard.

Child‑Support Modernization / Administrative Reform

Audrey W.•4 months ago SC’s Family Court backlog is among the longest in the country because judges handle every issue, including routine child‑support math. When a parent challenges an online update, the parent seeking support must pay fees and wait months, which defeats the purpose of an administrative system. SC needs more judges based on population, magistrates or clerks for routine matters, and automated recalculation to reduce delays and keep cases moving.
