The Power of Stories: Why Removing Books Hurts Our Communities

From "Welcome to The South Carolina Forum!"

Go to the project

As the founder of initiatives that uplift authors and storytelling, I believe every voice deserves space on the shelf. African American authors have long used literature to tell stories of resilience, truth, and humanity. Removing those stories sends the wrong message about whose voices matter. Our children deserve access to books that reflect the diversity and depth of the world they are inheriting.

I agree with this except for the fact that it isn't just one side of history that is being taken out. They have removed statues, flags and everything else. The fact of the matter is that you can't erase history and South Carolina is full of history. I don't think it should matter that it is there. But you don't need to make it one sided, let the people reading it for. Their own opinion. We need to stop telling kids and adults how to think.
