Taxes for schools should be spread evenly among public schools

From "Welcome to The South Carolina Forum!"

Go to the project

In SC, we send local taxes to local schools only. That means poorer districts, where many families rent and have lower incomes, stay at a disadvantage, while richer districts have an educational advantage to add to their existing economic advantage. Spread SC property taxes evenly across all districts, and stop giving taxes to private schools. That would make school districts more equitable and make it less necessary for people in “bad” districts to send their children to charter schools. Our kids need to be in properly funded schools with their peers.

This is another approach that sounds good, but would just cause more problems. The answer isn't just spreading the bucket of money further around, it is to grow the bucket. IF we can spend countless monies on war and giving the rich tax breaks, we can afford to take reasonable approaches to improving education.

I agree the public schools should be a priority of all representatives. The lottery money is being used to help students of private schools. Yet the public schools still struggle. These are public funds public funds go to public agendas. It's that simple.these funds could be used to make up the funding that isn't going to lower districts. We need to improve our school system not make available private schooling with public funds. The representatives are paid with public funds this action speaks volumes on where their loyalty lays and it isn't with public schools. They all need to be replaced DOE Weaver is up for re election and she was a huge supporter of public funds for private schools. She needs to be replaced, she too is paid with public funds.
