Speed Rail: Grand Central Stations

From "Welcome to The South Carolina Forum!"

Go to the project

Bull Street Development should create a Grand Central Station. The rail lines leading to the station should connect to major airports: Myrtle Beach, Charleston, Hilton Head and/or Savannah, GA, Rock Hill and/or Charlotte, NC, North Augusta and/or Augusta, GA, Clemson/Greenville, and Spartanburg and/or Asheville, NC. Depots with scheduled stops in towns with airports : Camden, Florence, Orangeburg, Aiken, Sumter, etc. The Rail system allows for greater use by airlines to use our system in cases of emergencies. Supplies needed evacuation for hurricanes.

I was stationed in Germany back in the mid-1980s. They had a well-developed rail system for moving people fairly quickly from outlying towns to large hub cities. Once in town You had a choice of an electric street car, a bus system or taxi to choose from to get you to your final destination. No parking worries. From the main train stations in hub cities you could catch a train to other large cities that moved fairly quickly. South Carolina would do well to look at investing in a similar system like that. The vehicle interstate systems have become parking lots during commuting and business hours. We can't seem to keep up with growth in the traffic demand/ volume.
