School safety (Bullying)

From "Welcome to The South Carolina Forum!"

Go to the project

There should be stronger penalties for bullying @school, & on social media ( at school) to the extent to be handled by the judicial system. Money should be directed to having guidance & counseling available for bullies and victims.more visible officers presence in unruly or lawless public school .A counselor with the power to direct a student into a strict program, investigate mental health and other issues, but most of all to control & order consequences to protect the vulnerable students while redirecting or expelling bullies using zero tolerance.

I agree with this in principal, but as an ex-teacher, bullying is harder to define than people think. Much 'bullying' behavior is kids being kids, but then sometimes it goes way too far. I do think no kid should have to take being made fun of, but it is a sad part of life and getting the courts involved could just make things worse. There does need to be more counseling in schools and teachers and administrators need to be more involved in kids lives and knowing more about what's going on so they can respond better, but I think this post is a bit too unclear about what bullying is and how to respond, so I voted against it.

All measures need to be taken to assure children are safe at school. We shouldn't wait for something to happen before something is in place. We need to be proactive in this in all areas including education. If students know there will be law enforcement involved and charges will be charged it maybe a deal breaker for some to be bullying anyone. I really hate that word bully it just doesn't represent how dangerously bad it can be.
