Restoring Canal Systems

SC has a forgotten history of canals across the state. With consistent hurricanes and flooding year after year, water flow management is economically important. Restoring and expanding the use of canals has many benefits. Besides the obvious flood control, there are housing and tourism opportunities as well as environmental protection measures that can be placed into action during the restoration. Following the examples and knowledge developed by the Dutch, inland and coastal canal communities can expand the SC waters experience for residents & tourists.
