Ranked choice voting

We need a fair ranked choice voting system in South Carolina! Democrats and Republicans often blame 3rd party voters like myself when they lose an election or simply call our votes “wasted” because they are essentially thrown in the trash. However, this would not happen with a ranked choice voting system. RCV: * Determines the candidate with the strongest support * Encourages civil campaigning * Reduces wasted votes * Eliminates the need for multiple elections

Third-party voters shouldn't feel like their voice is thrown away, and no one likes strategic 'lesser evil' voting. But ranked choice voting isn't the fair fix it's sold as. It sounds good on paper ('strongest support,' 'civil campaigning,' fewer runoffs), but in practice it's confusing for many voters, leads to 'exhausted' ballots that get discarded in later rounds, and can produce winners who didn't get the most first-choice votes. Look at Alaska and Maine, these states show delayed results, higher error rates, and outcomes that sometimes favor moderates or progressives by gaming second/third choices which weakens clear majorities and party accountability. South Carolina already has straightforward plurality voting with runoffs when needed (plus instant runoff for military/overseas voters). IMO, we should focus on securing elections with paper ballots, voter ID, and clean rolls instead of complicating the process in ways that could dilute conservative turnout and make recounts messier. True reform means making every vote count clearly on Election Day, not through opaque instant runoffs.
