Law enforcement, judicial system

Go to the project

The justice system in SC is supposed to deter crime and promote safety. Right now, it’s doing neither. The General Assembly has a responsibility to ensure that the justice system protects the public and punishes the guilty. It is too lenient on repeat offenders. Despite the damage crimes inflict on communities—especially low-income areas—many offenders receive light sentences, probation, or diversion programs, only to reoffend. It’s time to reform how the state handles repeat offenders, not out of vengeance, but to protect communities and uphold justice.
