Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders recognition

American Academy of Pediatrics recognizes Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders as occuring in approx. 5% of first graders. Many misdiagnosed as Autism Spectrum or ADHD actually have FASD. As a previous Maternal Child Health nurse and as a parent of a 32 year old adopted son with FASD, I have had experience propelling me to work to prevent FASD since 2009. South Carolina lacks diagnostics, and lacks recognition of FASD in some areas where FASD is prevelant such as DOE, DOC, DMH, DDSN etc. Prevention is key and will save state systems $$. Families suffer
