Deep water cruise port
From "Welcome to The South Carolina Forum!"
Go to the project
With the cruise ship industry faded in Charleston, and more and more retirees moving to the Grand Strand, it seems like the construction and opening of a cruise port in the Grand Strand would be a big boost to the economy, and also bring more visitors to Myrtle Beach. Plus, with the building of I-73, it would make it easier for nearby communities to take cruises. Good or bad idea?

Is the ports in Myrtle Beach deep enough to support the big cruise ships? I just went on a cruise and the ship was 18 decks tall so can Myrtle Beach accommodate that? Or a large Carnival Ship? Royal Caribbean? If it won’t, then it’s a moot point though I like the idea.
What about North Carolina? Any ports there that can accommodate a large ship?
